Engeddy Meran
My name is Engeddy Meran; I am 21 years old. I came to the United States from the Dominican Republic five years ago. I am currently a biology degree candidate at SUNY Old Westbury. I am expected to graduate in the spring 2025 semester and will be earning a Bachelor of Science degree. My dream is to become a pediatrician and become the first doctor in the family. I would like to be able to help the Hispanic community focus on children’s health, as many Spanish-speaking parents have challenges understanding English when it comes to seeing a doctor for their children.
In the spring of 2022, I went to Stony Brook University for a Summer Research BIOPREP Program that was based on finding the cure for cancer. I have a nursing assistant license; I have an electrocardiogram technician license; and I have a phlebotomy technician license. I currently work for The Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island as a direct support professional (DSP), Garden Care Center as a nursing assistant (NA), and Glen Cove Hospital as a patient care technician (PCT). I have learned to take care of others as I would like others to take care of me. I feel very proud of my achievements and grateful to God. As Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
