FTFP 2.0
Astrid Quirarte, a first-generation Latina, was awarded the Posse Foundation's Full-Tuition Leadership Scholarship to study at the University of California, Berkeley, where she majored in Molecular and Cell Biology. Inspired by her role as an older sister in a Spanish-speaking family, she followed her passion for health and education by working with the Biology Scholars Program as a Peer Advisor and Mentorship Program Coordinator for students from underrepresented backgrounds in the biological sciences. She also took part in the UCSF Undergraduate Research Internship, conducting a year-long research project with the Beyond The Pill Team to create and evaluate an educational tool for teaching young adults in California about telehealth for contraceptive access. Currently, she is involved in the UCSF Breast Care Center Internship Program, serving as the research coordinator for the Lobular Breast Cancer Research Program and as a patient scribe and advocate for the Patient Support Corps. She oversees and leads numerous invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) research projects, gathering data on treatments and outcomes for ILC patients. One of her ongoing projects is the ILC Prospective Registry, which seeks to understand long-term outcomes, including treatment effects and recurrences, in ILC patients.
