Jessica Asare
FTFP 2.0
I am Jessica Asare, a junior at Old Dominion University, where I am majoring in Biomedical Science with a focus on Pre-Health. To enhance my education, I am also minoring in Psychology and Biomedical Engineering, combining my interests in human behavior and the application of innovative technology in healthcare. As a first-generation college student from an immigrant family, I have encountered and overcome challenges that have built my resilience and determination. I am passionate about addressing healthcare disparities and aspire to become a pediatrician. My ultimate goal is to pursue an MD/PhD, which would allow me to merge clinical practice with research to make significant contributions to medicine. I have had the opportunity to participate in the SMART program under Dr. Mark Cunningham and intern at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. These experiences enabled me to research adverse childhood experiences and develop technical skills like Western blotting and catheterization surgery. Outside of academics, I have served as the treasurer of the Black Student Alliance and a teacher assistant for church Sunday school. These roles have developed my leadership skills and commitment to community engagement, driving my desire to make a positive impact in healthcare.
