Kyarie Shelton

Kyarie Shelton is a senior at Johns Hopkins University, majoring in Natural Science with a minor in Psychology. As a first-generation, low-income student from Indianapolis, Indiana, she has achieved academic success while managing leadership roles, research, and clinical experiences.
Kyarie is currently the president of Beta Mu Delta, a premedical society for Black students, where she creates a supportive community and leads initiatives focused on mentorship and serving underserved populations. She also led the Johns Hopkins Cheerleading Team as captain for two years, enhancing the program and contributing positivity and school spirit to the campus culture.
Kyarie has presented research on executive functioning in youth with congenital heart disease at a national conference, earning a prestigious poster award. She has been acknowledged for her academic and extracurricular achievements with the Outstanding Scholar Award and a Student Leader of the Semester Award from the Multicultural Leadership Council. As a Clinical Assistant at Kennedy Krieger Institute, Kyarie manages aggressive and self-injurious behaviors in children with neurobehavioral developmental disorders. She implements behavioral and educational protocols based on applied behavioral analysis, provides physical care and engagement, and assesses the effectiveness of treatment interventions.
