My name is Mya Bailey, and I hail from Rialto, California. I am a senior at Southern University and A&M College, majoring in biology and working towards my Bachelor of Science degree. I will be defending my honors thesis in May. Among my notable achievements are receiving scholarships from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Southern University Biology Department, Dolores Spikes Honors College, and Denny’s. I am highly active on campus, serving as the president of the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students and the public relations chair of Biojags. I am also a member of Topjags, the LS-LAMP Scholars Program, the honors college, the Honors Student Association, the Dow Scholars Undergraduate Research Experience Program, and the Tri Beta Biology Honor Society. Regarding research experience, I completed a 10-week internship at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, focusing on the early detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer, which concluded with an oral presentation. Through the American Heart Association HBCU Scholars Program, I researched trauma patients with liver and spleen injuries, culminating in a poster presentation.
